Consultation appointments are by referral from your Primary Care Provider (your physician, nurse practitioner, midwife).

Wait time for appointments will depend on referring diagnosis and the medical urgency, as determined by the referring doctor. The referring doctor is notified of current wait time for appt within 2 weeks of our office receiving the referral. 

After your appointment at OVP, the paediatrician will let you know whether a follow up is required. Most follow up will be directed back to your primary care provider/referring physician. MSP requires re-referral every 6 months for the specialist to provide continuing care. Although some doctors will put through the referrals electronically, we encourage all our patients to see their primary care provider between visits to our office. 

Consultant paediatricians see children for a specific problem only. They do not provide routine healthcare, immunizations, or "checkups". These services are generally provided by a family physician or nurse practitioner. You are expected to see your regular care provider  for re-referral to our office for for any new problem, or for ongoing pediatric follow up every 6 months. Patients seen on referral from walk-in-clinics who do not have a GP must attend the same walk-in-clinic for any recommended follow up care. 


Please check directions to our clinic and allow plenty of time.  Aim to arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure you get the full time scheduled with the doctor. We aim to see patients right on time! If you arrive late, you will have less time for your appointment. If you are more than 10 minutes late, the appointment may need to be rescheduled.

We remind and confirm booked appointments 2-3 days before and now offer text/email confirmation options. If we cannot confirm your attendance, the appt will be cancelled and filled with a patient from our cancellation list. Please be certain we have up to date contact information and be sure to cancel with 1-2 working days notice.


Cancelling or Rescheduling Appointments

Failing to show up for an appointment or cancelling at short notice leaves appointment times that cannot be filled, and increases the wait time for other patients. If you do not show up for your appointment without reasonable notice or explanation, the referral will be cancelled, your referring doctor will be notified, and your child will need a new referral to be booked again.
